AMCOL up 21% after Q2 earnings beat Street view

AMCOL International Corporation (NYSE:ACO) has jumped 21% in today’s trading after reporting better-than-expected second quarter results. The specialty mineral producer reported ahead of the bell that 2008 second quarter net income was $17.8 million, or $0.58 per share, compared with $14.9 million, or $0.48 a share, for the same quarter a year earlier. Wall Street was expecting a profit of $0.51 per share. The Arlington Heights, Ill.-based company said oilfield service sales helped push up its profit.

In today’s trading, AMCOL is at $31.11 at 10:26 a.m. ET, up $5.28 from Thursday’s close. The stock is up 25% during the past six months. In the past 52 weeks, shares have ranged from $23.51 to $42.70.
