Apple Event: The Launch of the iWatch?

Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) has officially announced that it will hold some kind of event on September 9 in its hometown, Cupertino, CA. While the existence of a September 9 event is no major surprise, the Apple rumor mill has been particularly active over the past week or two.
The Apple event is widely rumored to be the introduction of two new iPhone 6’s, one with a 4.7-inch screen and one with a 5.5-inch screen.
But there are plenty of reputable rumors that suggest the “iWatch” will be released alongside the iPhone 6.
Just yesterday Bloomberg reported that Apple plans to introduce its long-rumored wearable device at the September 9 event. Apple, for its part, seems to be showing signs that something big is coming.
The company declined any further comment besides its teaser, “Wish we could say more,” written on the invitation it sent to media outlets.

Apple is always very meticulous with its invitations and other event details. For example this invitation for what turned out to be the iPhone 5 launch just had the number “12” – for September 12, 2012 – but on the invitation the shadow was very clearly a “5.”

When the company announced its iPhone 5s and 5c the colorful invitation said “This should brighten everyone’s day.” This clearly hinted at the colorful iPhone 5c announced at the event.

There’s not much to read into the invitation this time around. Perhaps afterwards some minor detail will turn out to have been obvious foreshadowing. However the location of the upcoming Apple event is potentially telling.
The September 9 Apple event will be held at the Flint Center for the Performing Arts in Cupertino.
In recent years Apple has launched its products at a facility in San Francisco that holds just over 750 attendees. The Flint Center holds over 2,400.
Perhaps more importantly is the symbolism of the location.
It was at the Flint Center where Steve Jobs announced the Macintosh personal computer in 1984. The Flint Center was also host to Steve Jobs’ announcement of the iMac.
Both the Macintosh and the iMac launched Apple into a new era of products. And if ever a time for Apple to launch a new era of products, now is it.
Interestingly, Apple has constructed … something … in a lot near the Flint Center. Because the structure is surrounded by security and completely encased in white, any speculation about what it might be is exactly that, speculation. But, of course, the rumor mill is quite active with regard to what this might be.

Some suggest that Apple is constructing the space as a demo of its HomeKit home automation tools, Apple’s foray into the “smart home.” Others have suggested that it could be a place to demonstrate CarPlay.
Frankly, I can’t wait to find out. And I won’t have to wait long, the Apple event is just one week from Tuesday.
If ever a place for Tim Cook to stand up and announce a product that will launch Apple’s next era of products, the Flint Center is it. Clearly the company has something to announce that is more than just a faster, lighter, bigger iPhone.
DISCLOSURE: I personally own shares of Apple.

In fact, as mobile data usage explodes in the year ahead, its stock is set to soar! Shares are already on the move.
