The Descartes Systems Group Inc. (Descartes) is a global provider of on-demand, software that facilitates the logistics process (logistics technology solutions). The company offers software and services, which connect trading partners and enable electronic transactions and encourage time efficiency through document exchange, regulatory (including customs filing) compliance, route planning, rate management, wireless dispatch, and inventory and logistics optimization. In fiscal year 2006, the company acquired three international logistics operations located in the United States and Canada.

The company offers discreet services to transportation providers and logistics service providers (LSPs) and as well as manufacturers, retailers and distributors (MRDs). The company’s logistics solution to MRDs facilitates communications across transportation networks.

Descartes’ solutions enable clients to minimize costs (administration, miles traveled, billing cycles) and to improve reliability. Descartes counts nearly 1,800 ground carriers, airlines, ocean carriers, retailers and distributors among its clients, some of which include: 3M, AutoZone, British Airways, British American Tobacco, Canon, Frito Lay, Hanjin Shipping, Old Dominion Freight Lines and The Home Depot.

Revenues for the first quarter fiscal year 2008 ended April 30, 2007, were up 14% to $13.3 million from $11.7 million in the year-ago quarter. Net income totaled $1.1 million, compared with $1.2 million a year earlier. For comparative purposes, it should be noted that net income in Q1FY08 included a $0.2 million foreign exchange loss, compared with a $0.1 million foreign exchange gain in Q1FY07.
