Indevus Pharma reports positive results from octreotide implant Phase II trial
Indevus Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (Nasdaq: IDEV) today announced positive results from its Phase II octreotide implant trial in patients with acromegaly, a disorder characterized by excessive blood levels of growth hormone and insulin-like growth factor 1.
In the recently completed six-month trial, Indevus said the octreotide implant effectively suppressed levels of growth hormones and insulin- like growth factor 1 at rates similar to those seen with current FDA approved injectable formulations of octreotide. Additionally, the company reports that the drug was well tolerated.
Octreotide is a synthetic peptide that mimics the natural hormone somatostatin to block release of growth hormones.
Shares of Indevus Pharmaceuticals (IDEV) were halted in pre-market trading.
