Pre-market: Vical Inc. receives $6 million grant

Shares of Vical Inc. (Nasdaq: VICL) are sagging despite news this morning that the San Diego-based pharmaceutical company has been awarded a three-year, $6 million grant from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) for a DNA vaccine manufacturing process.  Shares are down $0.05, or 1%, to $4.95.

Shares of Repligen Corp. (Nasdaq: RGEN) are trading higher following news this morning that the Waltham, Mass.-based pharmaceutical company has received a favorable ruling from the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts on a patent infringement lawsuit involving ImClone Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: IMCL).  Shares are up $0.07, or 2%, to $3.55.

San Diego-based Nanogen, Inc. (Nasdaq: NGEN), which develops diagnostic products, announced this morning that it has received project funding from a number of Canadian agencies and will collaborate with them to develop diagnostic tools for the detection of natural or potential bio-terror threats to livestock.  Still, the stock is down $0.03, or 2%, to $1.35.

Shares of Menlo Park, Calif.-based Geron Corp. (Nasdaq: GERN) have moved up on news this morning that the company’s leukemia drug was tolerated by patients in a Phase I/II clinical trial.  Shares are up $0.06, or 1%, to $8.73.

This morning Branford, Conn.-based CuraGen Corp. (Nasdaq: CRGN) reported encouraging results from a clinical development program for drugs against T-cell lymphoma and ovarian cancers.  The stock had lost $0.01, or 0.42%, to $2.38.

Shares of Idenix Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (Nasdaq: IDIX) have moved into positive territory on news this morning that a Phase II study that the drug valopicitabine, which treats hepatitis C, achieved both primary and secondary endpoints.  Shares are up $0.17, or 2%, to $7.23.
