Semitool, Inc. (Nasdaq: SMTL) reported that bookings for its first quarter are up 42% on several new orders that the manufacturer of wafer processing equipment says has augmented its overall market share.

For the three months ended Dec. 31, 2007, the Kalispell, Mont.-based firm bookings were $63.8 million, up from of $45 million in the same quarter last year.

The company specifically attributed the increase in bookings to a large memory customer in Korea who ordered two additional Raiders, bringing their total number of Raiders to three. Additionally, Semitool said it received a first time order from Taiwan as well as repeat orders for front-end-of-line surface preparation Raiders and an order from another major memory manufacturer for a copper-plating tool that will be used to develop sub-50nm technology.

Semitool said it will discuss its first quarter bookings as well as general business trends during a presentation at an annual Needham Growth Conference in New York City on Jan. 9.

Shares of Semitool (SMTL) were halted in pre-market.
