Autobytel sues InsWeb for patent infringement
Shares of InsWeb Corp. (Nasdaq: INSW) are in negative territory on news before the start of trading that the insurance information website is being sued by Autobytel Inc. (Nasdaq: ABTL) for patent infringement.
Irvine, Calif.-based Autobytel, a small-cap automotive marketing services company, has filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas against micro-cap InsWeb, according to news reports. Autobytel is seeking damages and wants a permanent injunction.
Gold River, Calif.-based InsWeb said it was surprised to hear of the lawsuit and is convinced it is not guilty of any wrongdoing.
Shares of InsWeb (INSW) were down 14.18%, or $1.53, at $9.26 at today’s closing.

Russell lags as Dow nears record
The Russell 2000 failed to improve after Monday’s record close, losing 2.48 points, or 0.30 percent, to 828.96. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was unable to set a new closing record despite adding 52.58 points, or 0.41 percent, to 12,773.04. The record is 12,786.64, set on Feb.20.
Stocks posting small gains
At 10:50 AM the Russell 2000 was down 0.56 points, or 0.07 percent, to 830.88. The Dow Jones Industrial Average had gained 57.13 points, or 0.45 percent, to 12,777.59.
InsWeb posts first-ever profit
InsWeb Corp. (Nasdaq: INSW) announced after-hours Monday that it turned the corner to profitability for the first time.
For the first quarter ended March 31, the Gold River, Calif.-based online insurer posted net income of $400,000, or $0.10 per share, on revenue of $8.1 million, versus a net loss of $1.7 million, or $0.41 per share, on revenue of $7.7 million in the prior year period.
