The United States Attorney General is changing his views on cannabis laws.
And this could help pave the way for the STATES Act to pass in 2019.
Attorney General William Barr thinks the U.S. Congress should pass cannabis laws to protect states’ rights on cannabis.
The STATES Act was recently reintroduced in the House and Senate. And the cannabis law would force federal laws to defer to state law regarding legalization of cannabis.
President Trump has already promised to sign the bill – if it hits his desk.

During a hearing on Capitol Hill, Barr explained . . .
“Personally, I would still favor one uniform federal rule against marijuana.
But if there’s not sufficient consensus to obtain that, then I think the way to go is to permit a more federal approach so states can make their own decisions within the framework of a federal law so we’re not just ignoring the enforcement of federal law.”
Barr is a stark contrast – and big improvement – from former Attorney General Jeff Sessions.
You’ll recall that Sessions repealed an Obama-era memo that protected individuals and businesses operating in states where cannabis was legalized.
Barr has since reversed that repeal.
The opportunity in legal cannabis continues to improve. More states are passing legalization measures, and we’re starting to see signs of progress at the federal level.
