The Real Reason Amazon Wants 5G Spectrum

Everyone is getting in on the 5G explosion . . .5G spectrum
And even Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) is looking to secure rights to superfast wireless spectrum.
Reuters news reports that “Amazon is spreading its tentacles to 5G.”

Earlier this year, Amazon was bidding to purchase Boost Mobile.
Boost is a wireless company owned by Sprint (NYSE: S). And Sprint needs to sell the subsidiary in order to gain FCC approval of its merger with T-Mobile US (NASDAQ: TMUS).
Meanwhile, Amazon may simply buy 5G spectrum directly from the U.S. government.
On Dec. 10, the FCC is expected to sell 5G rights for over $3 billion!
Amazon could easily apply to add its name to the list of 39 approved bidders in the upcoming auction. And with over $41 billion in cash, the company could be a major contender.
Why would Amazon want 5G spectrum?  Here are two reasons . . .
First, Amazon could be planning to launch its own wireless service.
That may sound far-fetched. But you must remember that in the last couple years Amazon has gotten into the grocery business by acquiring Whole Foods. Amazon is buying airplanes and creating its own package delivery service to compete with FedEx and UPS. And the company plans to launch 3,000 satellites to bring wireless to rural areas around the world.
A wireless network may sound like an unusual expansion plan for Amazon. But after the past couple of years, it wouldn’t be that surprising.
Second, Amazon sees 5G as being critical to cloud computing.
Amazon Web Services – simply known as “AWS” – is the only profitable area of the company. It’s an $8 billion business that’s growing at over 37% a year.
Owning 5G spectrum could be critical for the expansion of AWS. Plus, it could give the company an edge over other cloud computing companies.
Amazon is one of the most forward-thinking companies in the world.
Jeff Bezos’ talents have made him the richest man in the world and  handed Amazon shareholders life-changing profits.
For example, a small $500 investment in Amazon’s IPO would now be worth $587,570!
