The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) just announced…
The arrest of two Chinese nationals for their alleged involvement in illegally shipping “tens of millions of dollars” of AI chips.
Chuang Geng and Shiwei Yang used their company ALX Solutions to ship “sensitive technologies” to China.
That includes top-tier GPUs made for Artificial Intelligence.
The kind of chips that are BANNED from export under U.S. law.
The DOJ didn’t officially name the chipmaker.
But all signs point to Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA).
The DOJ said it was “the most powerful chip in the market” and “designed specifically for AI.”
Reuters later confirmed that it was Nvidia’s H100.
If convicted, the two men could face up to 20 years in prison.
Here’s how their scheme worked.
ALX Solutions shipped chips to freight companies in Singapore and Malaysia.
But the payments came from Hong Kong and China.
And DOJ investigators found emails plotting how to bypass U.S. restrictions by routing shipments through Malaysia.
