Afghanistan may be one of the poorest countries in the world.

However, the country could have mineral deposits valued at approximately $1 trillion.

Ten years ago, the U.S. government announced sizable deposits of iron, copper, cobalt and gold in Afghanistan.

General David Petraeus even remarked that “there is stunning potential here.”

Meanwhile, this report from the Pentagon described Afghanistan as…

“The Saudi Arabia of lithium.”

The Pentagon estimates that Afghanistan could hold the world’s biggest lithium deposit. And it’s located in the Ghazni Province – just 80 miles southwest of Kabul.

Taliban Seizes Lithium Stockpile

The Afghan economy currently ONLY generates $1 billion from the minerals every year. And there had been optimism that the country’s natural resources could be developed.

However, that now seems decades away after the Taliban takeover.

Frankly, foreign companies and investors have been unwilling to invest in Afghanistan. And that was even true when the country was under U.S. military control.

Now that the Taliban are ruling – foreign companies definitely won’t be investing billions to develop mines.

That means automakers will need to source battery metals closer to home. And that’s why President Biden is focused on developing a supply of lithium in the U.S. and Canada.

America’s President recently held a closed-door meeting with Canadian and U.S. companies – including Tesla Motors.

North American natural resource companies are now rising to the challenge…

They’re working to quickly develop domestic battery metal deposits – in an effort to supply Tesla Motors (NASDAQ: TSLA), General Motors (NYSE: GM), and Ford (NYSE: F).

The EV boom is just getting started. And my research suggests that these battery metal stocks will be among the biggest winners.
